“What? Old stuff again?” Come on, kids, that’s called history! The Teatro alla Scala has a website containing the archives of the venerable institution. And who wouldn’t want to browse it? The theatre was inaugurated on August 3, 1778 with the performance of Antonio Salieri’s Europa riconosciuta. Since then many operas – but also concerts and ballets – have been performed, often by the greatest and finest names of the scene. The Scala has documented all the performances and has made the material available to the general public.
Want to see the dress Maria Callas wore when she played Paolina in Poliuto in 1960? No problem! Want to have a look inside the warehouse where sets are built? Sure! Looking for a picture of Placindo Domingo on stage? You’ve got it!
The lovely people responsible for these little treasures have kindly allowed us to share these three pics with you. (Click on them to see a bigger version.) But there are many more to discover on their website! Just go! We won’t be jealous, promise.
