More

Three men and a sonata

Johannes Brahms in 1853

Johannes Brahms in 1853

Simon and Garfunkel, John Lennon and Paul McCartney,  Stock Aitken Waterman,… It’s not uncommon for songwriters to team up with fellow musicians to write songs. But somehow, I had never thought about how far back in time you could go to find other musical collaborations. More

More

Funny how, come January, posts and articles flourish all over the Internet and in the papers about people who’ll celebrate their birthday in the following months. In the classical music field 2014 was all about Rameau, 2013 was crazy about Verdi, etc. So just a few weeks ago Sibelius was everywhere because he would have turned 150 this year. More

The Man of a Thousand Faces

Lon Chaney as the Phantom of the Opera

Lon Chaney as the Phantom of the Opera

I’d like to tell you how great Lon Chaney is in The Phantom of the Opera. The problem is: you may have no idea who he is because, as he once stated, “[his] whole career [was] devoted to keeping people from knowing [him].» How so un-Hollywood of him.

What do musicians do between concerts? After her “Dating: Don Quixote” last night and before her second concert with the OPL tomorrow, Alisa Weilerstein decided to spend part of her “day off” with teenagers of the European School. Her motivation: to bring music to kids who don’t often visit concert halls or listen to classical music. More
