Time well wasted #6

Pharrell Williams

While I don’t get all sentimental very often, I do believe that we should appreciate the little joys of daily life. Like having a coffee machine full of beans in the morning. Like snatching the last pain au chocolat at the Fischer truck. Like the chocolate bars we never seem to run out of in my department. More

Ragging a holiday classic

Ellington/Strayhorn, Nutcracker Suite

Ballet dancers are not the only ones who have a thing for Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. It turns out: jazz musicians do too. The ballet score was turned into a concert format called The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky himself even before the ballet premiered. Decades later, it inspired none other than Duke Ellington.

Un avant-goût de Noël?

Casse-Noisette

More

Time well wasted #5

Peter Grimes, artwork by William Elliott

Can you believe that snow flakes fell on Luxembourg on Wednesday and that the city was NOT paralyzed? I call this a little miracle. Maybe it was thanks to the ton of salt dropped on the roads and the sidewalks? Salt that destroys our shoes and leave white marks that keep reappearing no matter how many times you wipe them away… You’ve got to love winter, when most of the light shining on our faces comes from our computer screens. Let’s make the most of it, shall we? Let’s waste our time on the web… wisely. More

What a hectic week it’s been. Of course, when 300 Americans from Cleveland spend two days in the house, they’re unlikely to go unnoticed. We also held our press conference about rainy days today. There will be installations in the Foyer, which reminded me of this quote by Brian Eno: “Stop thinking about art works as objects, and start thinking about them as triggers for experiences.” And we are working on something that we’ll unveil in the coming weeks, but it’s a bit of a secret. Really hectic. You know what we mean, right? But it’s Friday night and it will all be behind us soon. And believe me, at some point this weekend we’ll be wrapped in a blanket, looking for something to read. More
